My name is Erik Russell. I was born in southern California on Thursday, April 1st, 1982. My Father was a career Marine. He retired in 1986, after which we settled in the small town of Hollister California (not to be confused with the clothing brand). At the age of 16, I got my first tattoo at ‘The Staircase Tattoo’ in Santa Cruz. It was a small Japanese style dragon on my left arm. From that point on I was hooked! I wanted to be a tattoo artist. From there I began my quest. At 17, I found someone who would teach me as much as he would about the craft. I then went on to find a job at a local tattoo shop. After not having much luck, I decided to enlist in the Army with the intent of traveling the world. After my enlistment I stayed in Fayetteville, N.C. A friend of mine had introduced me to a local tattoo artist who managed a shop, it so happened that they were looking for an artist. In March of 2003, I was taken under his wing. I worked with him for 2 years before I moved on. Shortly after that, on July 4th 2005, I decide to move south Florida. I had worked at many of the tattoo shops here in Broward County before finding my home here a Vatican Tattoo Studio. Here my work is constantly being taken to the next level. Perfecting and winning awards in nearly every style while being able to focus on the ones I enjoy most, Traditional Americana and Japanese. As much as I love tattooing, I’d say it falls second to my lovely wife and son. When I’m not tattooing, drawing, or painting, I spend as much time with them as possible. I’d love to help turn your next tattoo idea into a masterpiece. Call or message the shop to set up a consultation.
